I'm the type of person that likes to give back in different ways. Whether it is dedicating time, money or teaching.
In this blog I will talk about being a webmaster, My Way. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and my triumphs.
O.k. first of all just let me say that putting together a website like this one is a royal pain in the rear end! If you are just planning to build a simple website to showcase your bussiness, then you can accomplish that within a few days. This website has taken me 2 years so far to get it to look and do what I wanted. I have future plans and many things I want to do, but first I have to run everything I do through my mental list, which goes something like this. Does it violate the users of the site in any way? Does it keep the site nice and simple to use? Will the users like it? Should I put that decision up for community poll? etc.
Another thing you must realize is that it COSTS money! How much can you spend? So far out of my own money I have put about a grand into this site.
A lot of sites like the popular social sites basically sell pieces of their company to get money to run it. This might seem great to recieve a few hundred thousand or million, but what happens in the future? Who really runs the site, you or the investors? This is something I will be avoiding. I would rather go under that sell out! I don't want to have to make the site and how it functions cater to the investors and advertisers. There are already plenty of sites out there like this. No, this site will be different, because it will be run by me. The decisions will cater to the community instead of the people with big money.
Truthfully I could care less if you have millions of dollars or own a huge company. On this site everyone is treated equally.
This is the very reason AutumnsList was created. I'm not from Harvard, I don't come from big money and I'm not a spoiled bachelor just trying to make a million dollars by stepping on anyone in my way.
I have morals, I have kids, I know how to listen to what the public wants and I can do it without stomping all over peoples privacy.
It may seem like I got a little off base here, but here I am just showing my thought process. You don't have to be an ass to succed in life and I am gonna prove it. Will treating people like people pay off, who knows and who cares. If I was in it for the money then I wouldn't be concerned with peoples privacy and it would just run it like every other social site out there!
I will add more blogs as time goes by and I find more to share.
